Hillbillies & Vikings

This site is focused broadly on all descendants of John Denboe, an indentured servant who came to the Crown Colony of Maryland in about the year 1664. Also, it maintains a special emphasis on the descendants of John Denbow (1797-1862) and his brother Bazeleel (1795-1857), early pioneers in the hills of Southeastern Ohio, as well as the descendants of Jón Jónsson (1841-1934) of Dalasýsla, Iceland, who was an Icelandic immigrant to Canada and now has progeny throughout North America.

Interview with Jake Frantz by Susan Sharp:

Place of Residence: 452 Madison Street, Ravenna, Ohio 44266. Telephone 1-216-297-0432.

On 1/16/95 I called Jake on the phone. I will send him family group sheets and he will try to fill in the blanks. I also agreed to send him a copy of a photo of Uncle Jake with all the rabbits. Jake said that he is 70 years old. Jake told me that Caroline Frantz Doney was known to his family as Aunt Lena. T hat must be where Lena Vivian Doney got the name. I asked Jake if he knew why the family left France and he said that his grandfather did not like the way the country was turning out and that there was some kind of a war they did not want to get involved in. This bears out the story given to me by Vivian Doney. Neither Jake nor Harold Frantz knew what part of Alsace Lorraine the Frantz's came from. Neither had heard of Rose Barron or Catherine Bun or the town of "Shellbach." Jake also mentioned that some relatives owned a cantaloupe farm in Napoleon, Ohio.
