Anecdote |
1896 [1] |
- Sandy Jameyson, Carl's granddaughter, was told by one of her older relatives that George Miracle (1863-1924) raped Mary Catherine Denbow and that Carl William Denbow was conceived at that time. If so, George would have been both his uncle and his father.

- The family believes that Mary Catherine Denbow was the mother of Carl William Denbow Sr. This was based on a deathbed confession. It's also bolstered by DNA autosomal matches of a descendant with Denbow family members in that same line from William Denbow, the Civil War veteran, and the father of Mary Catherine.
The father may have been George Miracle, but this is not certain. However, recent DNA evidence does point to someone in the Miracle family as one descendant has a suggestive autosomal match with a person in the Miracle family.
Ron Denbow, a direct descendant in this line, says that Mary Catherine and her son lived for quite a few years with her father William, beforre she married William Tecumseh Gramlich in 1910. As a result, Ron says, Carl William became very close to his grandfather William. Ron says that as result of this closeness William's pocket watch was passed from Carl William Sr. to Carl William Jr. to him.
