Hillbillies & Vikings

This site is focused broadly on all descendants of John Denboe, an indentured servant who came to the Crown Colony of Maryland in about the year 1664. Also, it maintains a special emphasis on the descendants of John Denbow (1797-1862) and his brother Bazeleel (1795-1857), early pioneers in the hills of Southeastern Ohio, as well as the descendants of Jón Jónsson (1841-1934) of Dalasýsla, Iceland, who was an Icelandic immigrant to Canada and now has progeny throughout North America.

James Devor, son of John Devor, and a teller at the Second National Bank for some time, was found dead in bed at home last Friday morning by his wife when she went to awaken him for breakfast.  He was in poor health, subject to fainting spells, but retired the evening before in the best of spirits after his return from the Church choir practice.  He found lying on his face, and it is believed that while struggling in one of those terrible spells he rolled over on his face, and, being unable to help himself, finally smothering to death.  His death was a great surprise to everybody, a great loss to wife and daughter, relatives and friends, and the bereaved family have the sympathy of the people generally.  The deceased was about 40 years of age, a genteel and energetic young man, well respected by all who knew him.  Funeral services at the residence at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon were largely attended, conducted by Rev. Swan, pastor of Presbyterian Church.
