Hillbillies & Vikings

This site is focused broadly on all descendants of John Denboe, an indentured servant who came to the Crown Colony of Maryland in about the year 1664. Also, it maintains a special emphasis on the descendants of John Denbow (1797-1862) and his brother Bazeleel (1795-1857), early pioneers in the hills of Southeastern Ohio, as well as the descendants of Jón Jónsson (1841-1934) of Dalasýsla, Iceland, who was an Icelandic immigrant to Canada and now has progeny throughout North America.

Obituary from the Lancaster News Journal of October 17, 1918

MRS. WM. H. BARTON DEAD

Mrs. Mary Burns [sic] Barton, wife of William H. Barton, died yesterday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock at her home, No. 227 Mill street, from pneumonia, after an illness since last Tuesday, aged 38 years.  She is survived by her father, her husband, and these children: Ellen, William H. Jr., Richard, James, Lucy, Elizabeth, David and Burns [Bernard?].  A brother David Burns [sic] and a sister, Ellen, both of Wilmington, Del., and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Kame, of Columbia, survive.  The funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock with interment in the Catholic cemetary, at Klinesville.

[She may have been one of the fifteen reported deaths attributed to an influenza epidemic in Columbia in 1918.]
