Hillbillies & Vikings

This site is focused broadly on all descendants of John Denboe, an indentured servant who came to the Crown Colony of Maryland in about the year 1664. Also, it maintains a special emphasis on the descendants of John Denbow (1797-1862) and his brother Bazeleel (1795-1857), early pioneers in the hills of Southeastern Ohio, as well as the descendants of Jón Jónsson (1841-1934) of Dalasýsla, Iceland, who was an Icelandic immigrant to Canada and now has progeny throughout North America.

Hi Carl!

It's 'Me' again! Since moving here in April I haven't had time to unpack all my cartons (including my genealogy info) but just wanted to let you know that my GGrandfather was Levi.

I never had enough time with my Grandma and Grandpa Denbow because they lived in Deland, Florida for years. I did, however, have the honor of being born in their home in Deland. I was born there on my Grandma's birthday (Feb.22, 1927) and named after her. Her full name was Louisa Jane but everyone called her Janie. When I was growing up I used to ask my Mom why I didn't have a southern accent and she told me it was because I was only six weeks old when we returned to Ohio. At the time that didn't make sense to me because I thought people were born with a southern accent!

When my grandparents were getting older, and they had lost their only son (Willard) at the age of 21 as a result of a diving accident, they returned to Zanesville to live with their daughter Laura.

Grandpa Denbow had a great sense of humor and he was also very religious. I have a small collection of his humorous poems and also religious ones.

I've rambled on enough...but just wanted you to know who my GGrandfather was.
